This tragic event follows the demolition of 14 other homes deemed at imminent risk of collapsing onto the beach.
The erosion has been relentless, with 10 meters of land lost in recent days alone. This has left the residents of 14 properties on Marrams and Fakes Road with a dire choice: evacuate or face the constant threat of cliff falls. The impact of Storm Goretti cannot be overstated, as it forced residents to evacuate their homes, especially during the overnight hours on Thursday and into the weekend.

The North Sea has been particularly unforgiving to Hemsby, with a total of 34 homes lost over the last 12 years. The most devastating losses occurred in December 2013, when a tidal surge claimed seven homes, followed by the Beast from the East in March 2018, which took seven more. The year 2023 saw 11 homes lost, and the past three weeks have added nine more to the toll.
The local council has offered temporary accommodation to the residents of the 14 homes deemed at risk, providing a glimmer of hope in the face of such devastation.
